Eating While Backpacking – Advice For Backpackers
Eating While Backpacking – Advice For Backpackers
“They claim red meat is bad for you. But I never saw a sicklooking tiger.
Chi Chi Rodriguez
Here is some practical advice regarding eating and drinking while you are on your backpacking trip:
Cooking
If you stay in hostels with kitchens you can save money on food by purchasing ingredients and cooking for yourself or even better with others.
If you intend to cook your own food using a stove you will have to buy gasoline locally if you get there by plane. Make sure you get the right mix or you may end up being very hungry on a mountain top. Try your stove before you leave so that you know that it works.
Drinking water
Make sure that you drink enough water dehydration can ruin your day and give you a very bad headache. Drink small amounts often instead of gulping down large quantities a few times. Carry a water bottle with you and do not wait until you are thirsty before you start drinking.
Allergies
If you have a food allergy and need to make sure that you do not consume anything which contains the food you are allergic to you can get special cards translated into the local language which state that you are allergic to certain food stuff.
Festivals
Participating in a local festival can be great fun. You can find out what is going on in your destination by using the Internet.
Local markets
Local markets usually guarantee great fun. Especially food markets can offer some exhilarating experiences for a Westerner raised on pizza and hamburgers. It is usually a good thing to turn up early in the morning when people offload their merchandise and put it on display.
Happy travels!

Prison Break Or Prison Life
Prison Break Or Prison Life
The Bangkok Corrections Museum was initially a maximum security prison constructed in 1890 in the period of King Chulalongkorns Rama V reign after a visit was made to prisons in Singapore. The prisonmuseum though was initially formed in 1939 at a prison else where the Bang Kwang Central Prison which was training centre for corrections officers. That prison earned the infamous name Bangkok Hilton.
The prison was demolished in 1987 after a decision by the Thai government. Only three cellblocks a sidewall together with 2 watchtowers were conserved to create the Bangkok Corrections Museum. Later all the other areas of the prison complex were transformed to a public park the Romanni Nart Park. The park was publicly opened on August 1st 1999 by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn.
A scaled version of the old prison complex then and the park and museum now can be seen at the ground floor in Block 1. Photographs of the old prison complex and the demolition phases can also be seen here. Upstairs life size figure posing in execution scene can be seen. A prisoner used to be whipped ninety times and which they were decapitated by a sword. 3 executioners are in place to ensure the prisoner is dead. Later on riffles were used in the execution process.
The second and third block are more on a lighter note and showcase some of the best articles the inmates have made during their captivity. Articles include furniture handicrafts and various other things some of these items are in fact on for sale.
Block 9 is a conserved two storey cellblock that displays the execution chamber and quarter for the last meal before being executed. Weapons used during the executions are displayed here.
The museum is located in Bangkok Thailand on Maha Chai Road. Bangkok serviced apartments are available for the weary traveller; the Bangkok Royal President is one such place.
