Opened on 3rd April 1982 the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome is the 7th oldest stadium in major league baseball and the eleventh oldest in the National Football League. The stadium is a domed sports stadium located in downtown Minneapolis Minnesota. The stadium is named in memory of the former mayor of Minneapolis United States Senator and United States Vice President Hubert Horatio Humphrey Jr. He served as Vice President during the Presidency of President Lyndon B. Johnson. The stadium is at present 26 years old. The Metrodome is home to the Minnesota Vikings NFL Minnesota twins AL and the Minnesota Golden Gophers baseball during the first half of the season. The stadium is located at 900 South 5th Street Minneapolis Minnesota 55415.
The Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome has a FieldTurf since 2004 and the building cost 68 million to construct the construction cost was approximately 2 million under budget which is remarkable rarity for a modern stadium. The architects for the building were Skidmore and Owings amp; Merrill. The stadium has a Baseball capacity of 46 564 this can be expanded to 55 883 a Football capacity of 64 111 and a Basketball capacity of 50 000.
The roof at the Metrodome is made from two layers of Teflon coated fibreglass and is air supported by positive air pressure. In order to maintain the air pressure revolving doors are used at the Metrodome. The Metrodome contains a very sophisticated environment control system. The doublewall allows forward air to move under the top of the dome thereby melting collected snow.
