Popularly known as Americas most beloved Park the Fenway Park has been the home of the Boston Red Sox since 1912. Fenway has been in the center of many glorious moments in the history of baseball and has been home for many legends of the sport. Cy Young Babe Ruth Jimmy Collins Duffy Lewis Tris Speaker Harry Hooper Joe Cronin Bobby Doerr Johnny Pesky Ted Williams Jimmie Foxx Carlton Fisk Jim Rice and Carl Yastrzemski are some of the great figures produced throughout its long history. Though the park is known as unfriendly for lefthanded pitchers it is popular among baseball fans as a hitters paradise.
The opening of the stadium dates back to April 20th 1912 and the first game after its official opening was between the RedSox and the New York Highlanders who later became New York Yankees The history of the stadium galore with great memories and landmarks of the baseball history as it has hosted three major league Allstar games and nine World Series Games. It is the oldest stadium in the current major league baseball and is among the three classic baseball stadiums in the country. The history of the stadium has not always been filled with joyful moments. The fires which broke out in 1933 and 1934 destroyed most of its bleachers and buildings and resulted in some major remodeling projects in its history.
Several key places in the stadium has been nicknamed by sports fans and writers The Green Monster is the stadiums left field wall and probably found its name due to its green color. Williamsburg is the bullpen area constructed in front of the rightcenter field bleachers. A red colored seat in the right field bleachers known as the Lone Red Seat is where the longest measurable home run was hit at the stadium. Duffys Cliff is also another famous area of the pitch named after Duffy Lewis Rod Soxs first start left fielder.
New additions in 2007 increased the stadiums capacity by around 2000 and it has been proposed to further increase the capacity up to 39968 by 2012.The Park not only has been a venue for baseball action but has hosted several other sporting events concerts and even political rallies and speeches.
Visiting the park is all but fun; a number of Boston hotels and accommodation facilities are available around the park. Many high class restaurants and dinning outlets are also located nearby to make any visit to Fen Way highly memorable.
This legendary and traditionrich home of the Boston Red Sox has been a focal point in American Baseball history and continues to be one of the most celebrated ballparks in the country.
